The Village Project

Plant Promenade

During Fall of 2020 in course Environmental Design Workshop 5, my goal was to create a social/green space in between the dorms at Auburn University.

Mission

Providing social space at the Village was the main goal of this project. After interviewing multiple students who live in the Village, a common complaint was voiced. The Village does not offer many outdoor spaces for students to interact. Another complaint is that the summer sun makes the walk towards campus a hot and uncomfortable adventure. The Plant Promenade offers shading for the students walking underneath and an enjoyable garden space above for the students to occupy.

Vision

The Promenade has three levels with each level holding multiple seating arrangements to allow more spaces for the students to interact with the outdoors and each other.

Biodiversity

Each level of the Promenade contains different types of plants from across Alabama. This is a way for the students to learn more about the wide range of diversity in Alabama's plant life. Set up like a Botanical garden, the Promenade has informational pedestals around the levels explaining the plant life and where it is located in Alabama.
