Ponce City Market
Urban Connections
During Summer of 2021 in course Environmental Design Workshop II, my goal was to redesign Ponce City Market, GA.

Mission
Looking at the current proposal for the Beltline through Ponce City Market. I worked to create a space that engaged the local retail atmosphere along the Beltline. I wanted to create an experience for the community when using the trails. I proposed creating a botanical garden-like experience that encompassed the entirety of the Beltline starting in Ponce City Market.

Vision
Extending the deck of the shed helped engage the retail spots along Ponce. This also allowed for the the least amount of surface displacement on the naturally occurring bio-swell in that area. Adding more pathways created lanes for slower traffic, since currently there is not a separate bike and walking lane. The pathways also helped engage people with the environment, by creating smaller spaces.

Biodiversity
There is only one botanical garden in Atlanta, GA; which has an entry fee and paid parking. This limits who can access the gardens. My goal was to create a design that works towards educating the public in a fun and engaging manner such as walking the Beltline. This led to the unique sectioning of the site. Each section of the design contains different types of plants from across Georgia. This is a way for the public to learn more about the wide range of diversity in Georgia's plant life.

Original Concept:
-
Adding more diverse vegetation
-
Adding smaller trails to lessen traffic
-
Add more trees for shading and intimacy
